Cultura en Vivo by Grand Hotel Central

Sant Jordi at Grand Hotel Central – The Bernat Metge publishing house “returns home” after 100 years

This Sant Jordi, Grand Hotel Central celebrates a symbolic return: the Bernat Metge collection, dedicated to translating Greek and Latin classics into Catalan, returns to the place where it was born over a century ago — the former Casa Cambó, now home to the hotel.

On Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:30 p.m., the Cambó Library will host a special public event to present the new edition of The Oresteia by Aeschylus, the latest release from the Bernat Metge collection, translated by Eloi Creus and Miquel Desclot. Berta Galofré, Carlos Francesch, and Bernat Reher will also take part.

During the event, a live episode of the Mentrimentres podcast will be recorded, featuring a lively conversation about Greek myths, the challenges of translation, and the continued relevance of classical tragedies today. Selected excerpts from the work will also be read.

This event marks the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between Grand Hotel Central and the Bernat Metge project, making the Cambó Library a new meeting point between classical heritage and contemporary cultural life.

Sant Jordi is Catalonia’s day of books and roses — a celebration of love and literature. Every April 23, streets fill with readers, authors, and flowers in a vibrant expression of Catalan cultural pride.

We had the pleasure to enjoy:

Cooltural Plans and writers Laura Ferrero and Juán Tallón (March 19, 2024). We enjoyed discussing books, social media, artificial intelligence, and personal anecdotes.

Cooltural Plans, Isabel Coixet and Ramón de España (June 27, 2024). Coixet is one of the leading figures in Spanish cinema internationally; she is a director, screenwriter, and writer. Ramón de España is a music and television critic, film screenwriter, and writer. We had a fantastic afternoon discussing stories from the world of cinema, literature, music, and other topics.
